What is First-Year Experience (FYE) program?
The First Year Experience Program (FYE) is a tertiary enabling program specifically tailored to assist students from underrepresented backgrounds during the transition into university. FYE provides peer-led support, helping you navigate your university journey with confidence, supported by a community that celebrates inclusion and respect.
Who is FYE for?
FYE is designed specifically to support domestic undergraduate first year students who belong to any of the following groups:
- First Nations
- People from Low Socio-Economic Status (low-SES) postcodes or those who are experiencing financial hardship
- People who come from a Rural, Regional or Remote area
- First Generation students (those whose parents or carers have not yet attended university)
- People with disability
- Women or gender diverse people in non-traditional fields (e.g. STEM)
- From a non-English speaking background
Note: If you do not belong to any of these cohorts or are unsure about your eligibility but are excited to join this community, you are still very welcome to register!
What does it involve?
FYE is a year-long program that will occur in two phases in 2026.
During Semester One, you will:
- Build a strong network of friends, peer mentors and staff who care about you and your journey
- Develop life skills that support your wellbeing
- Strengthen academic skills and motivation via peer-led study sessions
- Develop your understanding of 黑料天堂clubs and societies, support services and culture, through a fortnightly newsletter;
During Semester Two, you will:
- Participate in fun and social events
- Expand your support network by engaging with other members of the Student Equity community at ANU, including later year students, staff and alumni
- Continue to participate in peer-led study sessions and access the newsletter
- Participate in a Celebration to commemorate the successful completion of your first year at ANU!
